Factory Street Studio, a 40-year-old non-profit dance organization, is seeking an Artistic Director. We are looking for an enthusiastic dance educator interested in sustaining a vibrant dance program and further enhancing its role in a community-oriented university town. With more than 30 classes running each week, Factory Street Studio is an integral, respected part of the Athens, OH area arts community.

The Artistic Director manages, organizes, and maintains a well-established, high-quality dance curriculum that includes Modern, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop, African, Creative Movement, and Composition. Reporting to an active governing board, the Artistic Director works in partnership with a Business Director, oversees curriculum, recruits and mentors teachers, oversees student assessment, and organizes external performance events, including a Winter Dance Celebration and a Spring Concert.

We are looking for a self-starter with:

  • At least three years’ teaching experience, preferably with students of varying ages and abilities;
  • Knowledge of anatomically sound dance technique across a range of dance genres;
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication skills;
  • Event planning experience;
  • Undergraduate degree in dance;
  • Successful completion of coursework in or demonstrated understanding of dance pedagogy.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Graduate degree in dance;
  • Familiarity with national dance standards;
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Grant writing experience.

 

Salary is commensurate with experience, starting at $30,000 annually, plus health and wellness stipend. Additional teaching opportunities are available, including in our partner university for qualified candidates. Review of applications begins November 15 and closes on January 3.
