Our Dance Studio Policies & Guidelines

Please check out our FAQ page if you have a question that isn’t answered here.

Studio and Class Etiquette

  • Dancers should arrive prepared — and on time.  If you’re late, do not barge into the studio. Instead, wait by the door for the teacher to acknowledge you and give you instructions. If you’re severely late, you may not be permitted to join because you could risk injury after missing the warm-up exercises.

  • No foul language or inappropriate behavior.

  • Cell phones MUST be left outside the studios.

  • Leave bags, coats, and other personal belongings outside the studios. Storage cubbies are available downstairs in the kitchen area.

  • No food or drink is permitted in the studios except water. Label your water bottle to avoid confusion.

  • No chewing gum.

  • If you are running a fever, do not attend class.

Dance Attire

Appropriate attire ensures the dancer can move freely and the teacher can see the student’s alignment and posture. Also, hair should be tied up.

Appropriate attire for each type of dance:

  • Modern, Jazz – leotard, tank top or fitted t-shirt with tights, leggings, or dance pants, bare feet. Students in jazz classes may wear jazz shoes.

  • Ballet classes – leotard, tank top or fitted tee shirt with tights or leggings, canvas or leather ballet shoes

  • Tap, Hip Hop classes – tank top or fitted t-shirt with leggings or sweatpants — please keep legs covered for floor slides; tap shoes are mandatory for tap class; sneakers are mandatory for Hip Hop.

Attire that is NOT permitted for dance classes:

  • Jeans

  • Short shorts

  • Baggy sweatpants

  • Pajamas

  • Dangling earrings, bracelets, or necklaces.

Drop Off and Pick Up

If your student is Tech 2 level or below, and/or 10 years old or younger, they must be brought to the stairs outside the building and picked up in the same area by a parent/guardian.

Factory Street Studio assumes no responsibility for children on the premises before, after, or between their specified class times. Parents and guardians are responsible for arranging proper supervision of their children.

Parents may want to consider making arrangements with older students or babysitters to ensure supervision of younger students.

Attendance

We emphasize consistent attendance for both physical safety and skill building. Your child could easily miss an important building block. If your dancer must be absent, please contact the office prior to class time. This is especially important for rehearsals and performances.

Note that if a student has two or more non-emergency absences during a semester, they may be removed from a concert (Winter or Spring Concert) or their participation may be reduced. Please let the office AND the instructor know at the beginning of the semester if your student will be going on vacation or has conflicting performances or sports events.

COVID POLICY

  • Factory Street Studio adheres to the current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations on COVID-19.

  • If your child was exposed to COVID-19, please wear a high-quality mask for 10 days after the last date of exposure and get tested on day 5. Students can attend dance class during this time.

  • If your child is symptomatic, we ask that you test if able:

    • If your child is symptomatic with a negative test they should not return to dance class until 24 hours fever free (without the use of medication) AND 24 hours free of vomiting and diarrhea.

    • If your child tests positive, we ask that they stay home for 5 days from the day of positive test (test day is day 0, student can return on day 6) AND wear a mask to dance class from day 6 through day 10.

Snow Days

Often road conditions improve throughout the day, and our goal is to hold class on schedule whenever we can safely do so.  FSS staff will assess conditions just prior to 1 p.m.  If, at that time, Athens County is under a Level 2 or 3 Snow Emergency the studio will be closed for the day. Otherwise, classes will proceed on schedule.

To make sure everyone is informed and can make necessary plans, FSS staff will email teachers, students, and families at 1 p.m. regardless of the decision.  We know that many families must make special arrangements to accommodate school closures, so students who are not able to attend will not be penalized under the FSS attendance policy.

Make-Up Classes

If classes are canceled, we generally schedule make-up sessions for Saturdays. We strive to finalize make-up dates as soon as possible.

Social Media

  • Faculty/staff of Factory Street Studio should not accept friend requests from Factory Street Studio students who are under the age of 18.

  • No photos should be taken in class without prior consent and written permission from parents ahead of time, and no photos of students should be posted on personal social media pages.

  • No private information about students or other faculty/staff should be shared via text or social media, ever.

  • As a reminder, no cell phones should be allowed in class.

  • Please limit cell phone communication between FSS faculty/staff and students to emergency situations only.
